Nicole O’Keefe

Meet Hannah Paige Kitchens, Author of Snapshot (2017 Cupcake Spring Readings  YPP EDITION)

BIO: Nicole O’Keefe is currently a 7th grade student at Explorer West Middle School. Recently she participated in a playwriting program where she wrote and produced her very first play. Honored that she received the opportunity to have her play read by Live Girls Theater, she looks forward to improving her playwriting abilities!

Where did the idea for your play come from?

The personal experience of daily watching the news and turning it off because of all the negativity inspired me to create my play.

What was your favorite moment in working on this piece?

I loved it when I finished! The most exciting part of my writing experience was reading it through all the way once I was finished. I saw how everything fit together exactly like I wanted it. I loved that sense of accomplishment.

What projects are you currently working on?

Presently I am looking forward to wrapping up the school year and am preparing for next years productions and playwrights.

Finish this sentence- “I love theater that…”

Relates to inner emotions and expands horizons and viewpoints.

Who is your current artist crush (any discipline)?
My best friend is a dancer, she inspires me every day to reach for the sky and to accomplish anything and everything. I strive to be involved like she is!

What was the best advice you were given as a theater artist?

That there is only being a good or bad writer and you have to choose which type of writer you want to be.

What is one thing you know now as an artist now that you wish you could tell your younger self?

Because I wrote my play at 12, I think that remains to be seen.

Outside of theater, what are you really into right now?

Martial arts! I’m obsessed!

What is your favorite and least favorite word?

Flabbergasted is my favorite word by far! Like how fun is it to say!

Not one word, but I can’t stand when anyone says “awesome-sauce” to describe something that isn’t an awesome sauce.
